How do I begin marketing my cattle as age and source verified?
If you are interested in marketing your cattle as age and source verified, start by talking with those you normally conduct business with to determine your best marketing options and develop your marketing plan. Areas to consider are timing, location, and calf growth/ genetic considerations. You might also talk to producers who are already involved in a PVP program about the record keeping requirements as well as their typical added costs and realized premiums.
Marketing through Special PVP Sale
If you chose to market your cattle through a SLN/TLN affiliated sale you first need to contact the livestock auction manager of the sale in which you plan to participate.
Second, you must be enrolled in the PVP coordinated through Integrated Traceability Solutions (ITS). To enroll, you must complete the ITS Kit which is available for download on this page or from your county Extension Agent, the Tennessee Department of Agriculture Field staff or a market representative.
Once you have completed the ITS Kit, you will then submit it to ITS for review. ITS will then have one of their representatives call you to review the paperwork you submitted, verify how your records are maintained and if there are any changes that have taken place in your operation since the last time you participated with ITS. Each time you market a group of calves as age and source verified you will go through this process.
